I would think most people have some memory of a Grannies button box, for me this is were my obsession started. Playing for hours with my Grans and my Mums button collections, from the mysterious jet black victorian ones, to the run of the mill white shirt button cut off my Dads shirt, they all had a story to tell. This was where my interest in buttons began.
As a child I spent most of my time making things, anything I could find was utilised. I was very keen on art at school and went on to study sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. In my final year show I produced an installation using thousands of buttons, this was when my interest became an obsession!
I graduated in 2002 and after spending a while longer in Edinburgh I decided to return to my home in the Highlands. After the birth of my son I started to expand my jewellery making from, the odd pieces for friends and family to selling at markets and then finding shops to sell my creations.
I now sell at the Poolewe and Ullapool weekly markets, Bridge Cottage gallery Poolewe, Dandelion Designs Waternish Skye, and Glass House Designs Plockton. Along with other trade events and craft exhibitions throughout the year.
